Frelih

Since 1892
The story of Frelih winemakers began in 1892, when Jožef Frelih bought a decaying old vineyard above Šentrupert and dedicated himself to it with the love and viticultural knowledge he brought with him from his native Vipava. His work was continued with no less enthusiasm by his son France, his grandson Josip, and behind him Josip's son Peter. Today, the Frelih wine cellar achieves wide recognition with top-quality still and sparkling wines, and is run by two Veronikas: the wife of the late Peter Frelih and their daughter.

Wine specialty
The love and passion of winemaking, which has been passed down for several generations, gave birth to the idea for Cviček od fare, which was first presented by Josip Frelih more than three decades ago. With it, cviček, a hitherto neglected Slovenian wine specialty, finally gained the prestige and reputation that this pleasant and refreshing wine deserves.

Excellent location
In his monumental work The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola (1689), the Slovene polyhistor Janez Vajkard Valvasor describes Šentrupert as the warmest settlement in Carniola. The favorable climate, the excellent location of the Zadraga vineyard above Šentrupert and the knowledge passed down through generations of Frelih winemakers are today a guarantee for top wine pleasures.
